SCNA Fall Newsletter

Hello SCNA Friends,

As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, our flocks are feeling the change too. Many of our birds are beginning their annual molt, trading old feathers for fresh plumage just in time for cooler weather. Autumn is also a wonderful season to refresh coops, prepare for winter, and enjoy the beauty of the changing season with our feathered companions.

It has been the joint effort of the governing council members to allow the membership of SCNA a voice in the future and direction of the organization. A special election was held in the spring determining that SCNA will adopt the general disqualifications for bantam chickens starting January 1, 2026.There has been a shift in focus from our founder, Jerry Schexnayder in promoting the booted and other types that he has dubbed “Novelty Serama”.To clear any misconception the SCNA has recognized and will continue to recognize the Ayam, Silkied, & Frizzled types as approved classes meeting the single comb clean legged breed class requirement.There has further been misinformation about the status of the Cajun Council.....

The Governing Council has approved an increase in grant money for National and Semi-National shows from $1000 to $2000, due to rising costs in putting on these shows.

 

Last time, we sent out a notice that ALL SCNA members are to join our new Facebook group. We explained the reasoning as to why we were doing this. If you haven't already, please ask to join the new Official SCNA Paid Members group using the link button below. All announcements will be made in that group from now on and not the old group.

Upcoming Events

We are currently sold out of the Exhibitor Guide and the Show Managers Guides, but don't worry- more will be coming in a few weeks. There will be minor updates to both guides, which will include the new defects and DQ list that was passed by membership this year.

We are currently working to put together a virtual defects and DQ guide for members. If you have any birds that have defects on this list, please email us at [email protected]
